Still Air is composed around a riff I had been playing with for some time before Old Scratch was formed. Initially this project was supposed to be a funeral doom band whose first album would tell the story of the ill fated Greely arctic expedition. I wrote the riffs to be played significantly slower than you will hear them here and it never really came together. As the concept for this album took shape we re-engineered the song to better fit the story and atmosphere of the album. This one benefited immensely from having Zach join us not only as a guitar player but as a much needed second vocalist.
The night is silent
a cloudless empty sky
the air is still here
a total lack of light.
Moving in the shadows
the darkness wears her face
no longer hiding
I cant escape its gaze.
I know the silence that is here its secrets are finally revealed
a darker purpose made for me theese wounds will never ever heal
our mortal souls cannot be saved we’ll be eternally enslaved
when your downfall finally comes you will know you’ve been betrayed
